House Democratic Leader Robert Reives Statement on “House Budget” Vote

“This week House Republican Leadership has rushed through a budget process that we have known from the start was dead-on-arrival in the Senate. Still, they have demonstrated what their main priority is: A massive expansion of taxpayer-funded vouchers for the rich,” House Democratic Leader Robert Reives said.

“More than half of the new spending in this document funnels money into the pockets of the wealthiest North Carolinians to pay for private school education. Instead of debating in good faith, every amendment offered by House Democrats that would use that money for more prudent purposes was ruled out of order, despite being well within the rules of the Chamber.”
